"...Let us restrict our efforts in Afghanistan to a minimalist focus on disrupting our enemies..."

NJ's National Security's panel of regular experts, here
"...The United States is fast becoming a poor country. If we launch a full blown COIN driven nation building effort in Afghanistan, that effort will be paid for with borrowed money or with fiat money. One path probably leads to a deflationary spiral and the other to massive inflation. We can afford neither eventuality. Let us restrict our efforts in Afghanistan to a minimalist focus on disrupting our enemies..." (PL)

I thought the connection between foreign policy and economics was supposed to be a state secret! If people were actually to start talking about how an aggressively intrusive foreign policy affects the standard of living of the average American, voters would get all sorts of dangerous ideas in their heads. As more people start to fear unemployment and foreclosure, they might actually start voting for peace candidates!
